In April 2025, the Elder Board approved the process of starting Stephen Ministry at Chapel Hill Bible Church. Once we train and equip new Stephen Ministers, we can start offering care for people going through difficult times.
If you believe you may be interested in becoming a Stephen Minister, please
contact Terrie Kocienda by email: terrie.kocienda@att.net.
Stephen Ministry is a proven and effective way to organize, equip, and support a team of congregation members - called Stephen Ministers - to provide high-quality, one-to-one, Christ-Centered care to people in the congregation who are experiencing life difficulties.
“Caregivers” are Stephen Ministers. Stephen Ministers are congregation members trained by their Stephen Leaders to offer confidential care to people who are hurting. A Stephen Minister typically has one care receivers at a time and meets with that person once a week for about an hour.
“Stephen Ministers are the Caregivers, God the Cure-giver”
Care Receivers are individuals in the congregation who are going through a life difficulty. Potential care receivers first meet with a Stephen Leader, who assesses their need for care and then matches them with a Stephen Minister. The confidential caring relationship lasts for as long as the need persists.
Stephen Leaders are church members who are trained as lay leaders to provide ongoing leadership for the congregation’s Stephen Ministry. They are equipped for this key role through the Stephen Leader Training Course offered by Stephen Ministries St. Louis.
After being matched with a person experiencing a life difficulty , the Stephen Minister meets with the “Care Receiver” on a weekly basis to listen, care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support. The caring relationship lasts as long as needed.
Training will begin this Fall. We will provide an update as soon as dates and times are determined.
Pastor Ryan McKee, the Spiritual Formation Pastor (currently on sabbatical) is the Pastoral Leader for Stephen Ministry.
They are members of our congregation who have been selected to attend online training from Stephen Ministry St. Louis. The current Stephen Leaders are: Terrie Kocienda, Janet Wright, and Matthew Wright.
We are looking for additional leaders to share in the seven areas of leading Stephen Ministry. If you are gifted in training, organization, and management, please contact Janet Wright.
